Alex de la Pena joined the Brown swimming & diving programas an assistant coach in August 2013. De la Pena comes to Brownfollowing a two-year stint as the Head Swimming & Diving Coachand Director of Aquatic Sports at Monmouth College in Monmouth,Illinois.
At Monmouth, de la Pena created and planned water workouts aswell as weight room and dryland programs. Additionally, he wasresponsible for recruiting, fundraising, budget, team travel andmonitoring academic performance. In the pool, de la Pena coached 23All-Midwest Conference performances, along with one conferencechampion, 19 school records and 88 top ten times in programhistory. Most recently, he led the men’s and women’steam to a third-place finish at the 2013 Midwest ConferenceChampionship, marking the highest combined finish in teamhistory.
Before Monmouth, de la Pena served as the assistant swimming& diving coach at Oberlin College from 2009-2011, where hecoached the team to 11 school records and posted 81 top ten timesin school history. Under de la Pena’s direction, threeswimmers achieved NCAA “B” cut times and one swimmerqualified for the 2010 NCAA Division III National Meet.
Prior to Oberlin, de la Pena was the assistant swim coach at St.Lawrence University from 2007-2009 where he helped coach the teamto 6 school records and 63 top 10 times in school history.
A 2007 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, de la Pena earned aB.A. in sport management and business. He served as the captain ofthe swimming and diving team his junior and senior year and was a20-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer. de la Pena earned aMaster of Education in Education Administration and Leadership fromSt. Lawrence in the spring of 2009.
