Niko Fantakis was promoted to associate head coach of the Brown Women's Swimming & Diving program in July of 2023. Fantakis joine the Bears staff as an assistant in 2018
The 2019-20 campaign saw Brown break a total of four school records at the Ivy Championships while Taylor Seaman earned Second Team All-Ivy honors in two events.
In his first season, the Bears recorded their best finish at the Ivy League Championships since 2005, a fourth-place showing. A total of seven program records were broken during the season, five individual and two relay.
Fantakis came to College Hill from Duke where he was an assistant coach for the past two season. With the Blue Devils, Fantakis guided the women’s team to its largest point total all-time at the 2018 ACC Championships. In his two seasons, the program totaled 129 NCAA ‘B’ cuts, 40 school records, and two All-American swimming performances.
Prior to Duke, Fantakis completed his collegiate career in the pool at Connecticut College. He swam for the Camels for three seasons before taking on the role of a student assistant coach as a senior. Under his guidance, the men's and women's teams both earned top 20 finishes at the 2016 NCAA Div. III Championships.
While at Connecticut College, Fantakis received The Andrew Chait '82 Service Award in recognition of his service and commitment to the Department of Athletics. He graduated in 2016 with degrees in economics and sociology.
In addition to his time spent as a student assistant coach, Fantakis developed his extensive coaching experience at numerous camps. He served as an assistant coach and head counselor at the Duke Swim Camp and helped oversee the Blue Devils' club program in 2015. Fantakis also served as an assistant coach at the Longhorn Swim Camp and the Peak Performance Swim Camp.
A native of Westfield, Mass., Fantakis attended Westfield High School, where he served as a New England Swimming athlete representative and a YMCA Swimming National Committee athlete representative.
