A PGA professional with nearly thirty years of experience in the golf industry and as a college coach, Jason Calhoun was appointed Director of Golf at Brown University in August 2022. In this role, Calhoun coaches the men’s and women’s golf teams and will oversee the program’s transition from a club sport to a varsity sport for the 2026-27 season.
This is Calhoun’s third stint as a head coach in the Ivy League. Calhoun joined Brown after serving as the Head Men’s Golf Coach for five years at the University of Pennsylvania, which was preceded by four years as the head coach at Dartmouth College.
Through his first three years on College Hill, Calhoun has helped lead Brown’s club teams to new heights. The 2025-26 squad qualified for nationals for the fifth straight year and has four players ranked in the top 20 in the nation. At nationals, Calhoun’s teams finished 16th out of 45 teams in 2022-23 and rose to an 10th place finish in 2024-25.
Calhoun's first season overseeing the Penn golf program in 2017-18 was highlighted by Josh Goldenberg winning medalist honors at Colgate's Alex Lagowitz Memorial. Penn finished third out of 15 teams at that event, and also came in second out of 12 at Princeton in the spring and third at the City Six Shootout to wrap up the fall portion of the season.
The Quakers achieved two top-three finishes in spring 2019, finishing second among 13 teams at the Princeton Invitational and, a week later, third among 11 teams at the Yale Spring Intercollegiate. The shortened 2019-20 season, which was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saw Penn place third at the fall-opening Ryan T. Lee Memorial Intercollegiate.
Penn was led by standout Mark Haghani throughout the 2021-22 season, who notably tied for second at the Ivy League Championship, marking Penn's best finish at Ivies since 2015.
As the Head Men’s Golf Coach at Dartmouth from 2001 to 2005, the Big Green achieved two top-five finishes at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship and a third-place finish at the 2002 Ivy League Championship.
Calhoun joined Penn after serving as the first Head Women’s Golf Coach at La Salle University. He also spent one season as the Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach at Arcadia University in 2014-15.
Calhoun served as Head Coach of the Women’s Golf program at Loyola University Chicago from 2011-13, where he led the Ramblers to their best finish at the Horizon League Championship in 2012, tying for second.
Calhoun’s college coaching career began at Saint Francis (Pa.), where he served as Head Women’s Golf Coach from 1994 to 1997. He elevated the program from its early stages to the top third of the ECAC within three seasons, while also supporting the men’s team.
Calhoun has been a certified Class A PGA Golf Professional since 2004 and served on the PGA of America President’s Council on Growing the Game from 2006 to 2014. A TPI Certified Golf Instructor and Certified Club Fitter, Calhoun was named PING Regional Club Fitter of the Year and was recognized as a Play Golf America Top 100 Performer in 2010.
Calhoun has served as Head Golf Professional and/or Director of Golf at various courses across the Northeast and Midwest over the past thirty years, including Glen Flora Country Club (Ill.), Cascades Golf Club (Ind.), Otis Park Golf Course (Ind.), Indiana University Golf Course (Ind.), and Hanover Country Club at Dartmouth College (N.H.). He also worked as an Assistant Golf Professional at Philadelphia Country Club, Boonsboro Country Club (Va.), and Immergrun Golf Club (Pa.).
As an active player, Calhoun won the New England PGA Senior Club Professional Championship in 2023 and qualified for the National Senior Club Professional Tournament. In 2023, Calhoun finished as a Top 20 player in the New England PGA and was ranked as the No. 1 Senior PGA Player in New England. Calhoun has previously been in the top 100 on the PGA Philadelphia Section (2015, 2016) and PGA Illinois Section (2011-14) points lists. He is a three-time champion of the Bloomington Open and a three-time top-20 finisher in the PGA Indiana Section.
Calhoun earned a bachelor's degree in history and secondary education from Saint Francis (Pa.), where he was a three-sport athlete for the Red Flash, earning All-NEC honors in golf and football while also running track. He was recognized as a Small College All-American in football.
