Messing Family Head Coach for Brown Women’s Soccer Kia McNeill announced the hiring of Assistant Coach Jake Castro on Jan. 29, 2026. Castro arrives on College Hill following a season as an assistant coach at Barry University.
Prior to Barry, Castro spent two seasons (2023-24) on staff at Florida International University, helping guide the program through the most successful stretch in its history. In 2024, FIU captured both the Conference USA Regular Season and Tournament Championships and earned a berth in the NCAA Division I Tournament. Across his two seasons with the Panthers, the program climbed into the top 27 percent nationally in the NCAA Division I women’s soccer RPI, marking the fastest rise in the country during that span.
Across his three most recent collegiate seasons at FIU and Barry, Castro contributed to the development of a Conference USA Player of the Year, an Offensive Player of the Year, and a Defensive Player of the Year, along with four First Team, ten Second Team, and two Third Team All-Conference selections. Five student-athletes also earned All-Academic honors during that period.
Castro has also held roles with Miami FC of the USL Championship, working across both the first team and academy in goalkeeping development and performance analysis while helping bridge academy players into the professional environment. He also served as Director of Coaching at Hollywood FC, leading club methodology, curriculum development, and staff mentorship. During his tenure, he additionally served as the club’s USL Academy Head Coach, helping guide the program to its highest finish in club history.
A Massachusetts native, Castro earned a Bachelor of Science in Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He is currently completing his UEFA A License through the Football Association of Wales.
