Ryan Mattison spent six years, five seasons, on the Brown coaching staff from 2019-2024. Mattison joined James Perry’s coaching staff as the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator ahead of the 2019 season, and was later named the offensive coordinator prior to the 2021 season.
In his final season at Brown in 2024, Mattison help guide the Bears' offense to an Ivy League-leading 421.8 yards of total offense per game and 290.7 passing yards per game, and had tailback Matt Childs named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
In 2023, Brown ranked second in the Ivy League in total offense (396.0 yards per game) and led the league with exactly 300 passing yards per contest. Quarterback Jake Willcox earned Second Team All-Ivy honors after leading the league with 301.7 yards of total offense per game. Wide receiver Wes Rockett led the league with 70 receptions and was second with 79.5 receiving yards per game, en route to being named a finalist for the Bushnell Cup as Ivy Offensive Player of the Year, in addition to earning All-New England laurels.
In 2022, Mattison's offensive attack helped the Bears rank third in the Ivy League in passing offense (247.2 ypg), quarterback Jake Willcox sit second in passing yards per game (255.1 ypg) in the league, and tailback Allen Smith lead the league with 13 total touchdowns.
Mattison took over as offensive coordinator in 2021 and piloted the Brown offense to 29.5 points per game, and led the Ivy League with 445.3 yards of total offense and 311.9 yards passing per game, ranking 12th, and eighth, respectively, in FCS Football in both categories.
During his first season at Brown in 2019, Mattison tutored tight end Emerson Logie to All-Ivy honors.
Prior to arriving on College Hill, Mattison spent two seasons as the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator at Bryant under coach James Perry.
A 2003 graduate of Boston College, Mattison walked on to the Eagles’ football team and eventually earned a full athletic scholarship. He was a two-year varsity letterwinner for the Eagles and was a two-time Scout Team Player of the Year.
Mattison earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from BC in 2003 and a Master of Science degree in Administrative Studies from BC in 2006.
While at Brown, Mattison and his wife, Allison, resided in Wakefield, R.I., with their two daughters.
