Tutoring Information
The Athletic Department's Tutoring Program supports the overall missions of the university and the athletic department by providing tutoring assistance to student-athletes and support their overall excellence in the classroom and their respective sports. Tutors are not a replacement for attending class but rather a complement to regular class attendance and diligent studying.
Student-athletes have access to free tutoring through the Sheridan Center’s Tutoring Program and through Athletics. In order to support different learning styles, the Sheridan Center offers group tutoring and Athletics offers individual tutoring. In most cases, individual tutors are fellow student-athletes. Student-athletes requesting tutors will be matched based on the availability of tutors, whether using group or individual. Although student-athletes have access to both programs, they are only allowed to use one system per course. Therefore, students can have an individual tutor for MATH 0090 and a group tutor for CHEM 0100 but cannot have an individual and group tutor for MATH 0090. This is considered “double dipping” and students will be required to choose one system.
Neither program will provide tutors for Computer Science courses. Please contact the CS/CSCI department. We also cannot provide tutors for any course that satisfies the university’s writing requirement. Please speak to your professors and contact the Writing Center. In addition to that, tutors will not be offered for every course.
Students will be contacted via email when paired with their tutor and will have 48 hours to respond to that email. Otherwise, the pairing will be canceled and will have to resubmit their request. Unpaired students will be automatically placed on the waitlist and emailed when a tutor becomes available. All requests are made through the portal. Instructions on how to use the portal or located here.
COVID NOTE: For the time being, both individual tutoring and group tutoring will be offered through Zoom. No tutoring sessions will occur in-person during the Spring 2021 semester.
