Campus Academic Resources
Student-athletes are encouraged to take advantage of the academic resources available to all students. However, because student-athletes operate under unique time constraints, Brown has developed a number of programs for student-athletes that supplement its regular advising and support systems. The underlined headings below are active links.
Â
ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES
This office offers a wide range of resources to students including, studying strategies, academic coaching, and several workshops on a variety of topics.
Â
CURRICULAR RESOURCE CENTER
The CRC is where student advisors help their peers engage with the open curriculum and effectively utilize Brown’s academic resources. The CRC coordinates information sessions, community-building events, and individual meetings with students for advising about independent studies and concentrations, fellowships and research opportunities, taking time off from college, issues related to the sophomore year and more.
Â
DEAN OF THE COLLEGE
Deans may be consulted when a student is having academic difficulties, or if the student—or an advisor—needs guidance. The Dean of the College office holds open hours for quick questions Monday through Friday. Students may schedule an appointment for a longer consultation.
Â
OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENT & SCHOLAR SERVICES
International students can benefit from resources both before and after their arrival in the United States. OISSS supports the integration of international students and scholars into the Brown community.
Â
MATH RESOURCE CENTER
The MRC is a walk-in help center designed for students taking calculus courses at Brown University. The MRC is staffed by 1-2 graduate students and 2-3 undergraduates per night who help students on an individual or small group basis. Their hours of operation change every semester.
Â
PRE-PROFESSIONAL ADVISING CENTER
This office is a collaboration between the Office of the Dean of the College and CareerLAB that supports students and recent alumni interested in education and careers in the Health Professions, Law and Business through dedicated web resources, publications, workshops, programs, group and individual advising.Â
Â
SCIENCE CENTER
The Science Center offers academic support, tutoring, science-related activities, and a network of faculty and peer advisors familiar with Brown's science offerings. Building on Brown's strong tradition of interdisciplinary collaboration, the Science Center provides a space where students, faculty, and local teachers from math, science, and engineering disciplines gather to share best practices, learn about research opportunities on campus and at affiliated hospitals, and generate new ideas for science initiatives at Brown and in the larger community.
Â
WRITING CENTER
The Writing Center provides individual and group writing support free of charge to any member of the Brown community. Writing Center associates assist students with all stages of the writing process, from finding a topic through drafting, revising, and final editing.Â
