Alumni Spotlight – Siri Lindley ’91
A former three-sport student-athlete and a member of the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame, Siri Lindley’s ’91 career path evolved from her field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse experiences at College Hill to a very successful triathlete and now coach.
After graduating from Brown, Lindley coached Division I field hockey and lacrosse for two years at both Princeton and Lehigh, before competing in her first-ever triathlon.
Lindley first competed in the triathlon in 1992 with little background to the sport, and soon fell in love with it. She started competing in the International Triathlon Union (ITU) in 1996. From there, Lindley consistently turned in top finishes, including 13 ITU Triathlon World Cups (2000-02). Lindley was the ITU Aquathlon World Championships winner (2001) and was an alternate at the 2000 Summer Olympics (first Olympic year of triathlon competition). Lindley was named the ITU Triathlon World Champion, Triathlon Magazine's Triathlete of the Year and the Female Duathlete of the Year in 2001.
In 2003, Lindley began coaching triathletes. She has instructed and trained a number of Olympic and Ironman athletes and champions. Lindley also coached athletes to silver and gold medals at the 2004 Olympic games in Athens.
Lindley was inducted into the inaugural class of the ITU Hall of Fame in 2014, and followed that up with being inducted into the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame.
Aside from coaching and competing in triathlon, Lindley reported on the sport for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing for NBC. She has also covered NCAA field hockey events.
Lindley recently completed writing a book, called Surfacing: From the Depths of Self-Doubt to Winning Big and Living Fearlessly, which will be coming out in October. The book discusses how she overcame self-doubt and inexperience to become a world champion triathlete, and how she now helps others reveal their own potential.
