Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Holds Second Annual “Tug for a Cure”
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University athletics and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee partnered to host the second annual "Tug for a Cure" on Sunday afternoon as Bear teams competed in a tug-of-war competition to raise money for the Brown University Oncology Research Group (BrUOG).
Competing on Brown's Main Green, the Bears' student-athletes raised over $1,500 for cancer research. With separate single-elimination brackets for men's and women's teams, football took the men's title while women's ice hockey won on the women's side.
As part of its continued efforts to support BrUOG, on Sunday, May 7, SAAC will host the ESBYs, an awards ceremony modeled after the ESPYs, where student-athletes nominate and select their peers for a variety of awards.
BrUOG was created in 1994 to advance clinical cancer research at Brown University and its affiliated hospitals. Led by Medical Director Howard Safran, MD, BrUOG's team of top-flight physicians and researchers is dedicated to improving cancer care through the implementation of innovative, multidisciplinary clinical trials.
