Men’s Tennis Dominates in Singles on Day Two of Hall of Fame Invitational

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Brown Men's Tennis team dominated singles action against Georgetown on Saturday, winning 16 out of 19 matches on the second day of the Hall of Fame Invitational.
Robert Yang set the tone early with a composed straight-set win over James O'Sullivan (6-3, 7-6(5), and Ivan Sodan followed by flipping his match after dropping the first set, rallying for a 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory. Brown continued their momentum as Tej Bhagra topped Carson Dwyer (7-5, 6-0), Lukas Phimvongsa edged Cyrus Zia (7-5, 7-5), and Elliot Wasserman defeated Waleed Qadir (6-2, 6-2).
Lucas Kimelman was outlasted by Rush Slivjanovski in a tight three-set battle, 6-7(5), 7-6(2), 10-8, and Justin Lin was also topped by Slivjanovski, 7-6(4), 6-3. James Lian and Gautam Venkatraman also added more strong performances, with Lian defeating Sahil Morey, 7-5, 7-5, and Venkatraman beating Jack Mountford, 6-4, 6-4. Cole Oberg topped Hank Williams with a 6-1, 6-4 result while Justin Lin and Tej Bhagra added two more victories. Lin posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Dean Rostom, and Bhagra topped Jacob Mann, 6-3, 6-4.
Lukas Phimvongsa and Elliot Wasserman were successful again in their matches. Phimvongsa earned a 7-6(8), 6-2 win over Carson Dwyer, and Wasserman added a 6-2, 6-3 result over Cyrus Zia. Senior James Lian came out on top against Jack Mountford after dropping his first set (4-6, 6-3, 10-4), while freshman Gautam Venkatraman topped Hank Williams 6-4, 7-6(2). Cole Oberg and Toby Luo finished out the day with two more wins to add to Brown's count, with Oberg defeating Sahil Morey, 6-2, 6-1, and Luo edging Dean Rostom, 6-4, 6-0.
Brown will continue playing against Georgetown on the third and final day of the Hall of Fame Invitational on Sunday at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I.
