Women's Rugby Wins CRC Championship For Third Consecutive Season

BOYDS, Md. – The Brown Bears women's rugby team entered the day seeking their third consecutive Collegiate Rugby Championship 7s Title. After defeating Penn State in the semifinals 19-7, they went on to defeat Army in the championship by a score of 19-7. It was the third consecutive year in which they've defeated Army in the final game to win the championship.
Nikki Lynch scored two tries in the first match against Penn State. Laryssa Barbosa scored a try as well, with Julia Murray executing two conversions. They cruised to a 19-7 victory over the Nittany Lions.
In the championship match, Army started off strong, taking a 7-0 lead. It was all Brown after that, as Laryssa Barbosa scored another two tries and Murray added two conversions. Akilah Cathey scored a try before the buzzer to secure the victory 19-7.
"We could not be more proud of our whole squad, led by three amazing seniors, Aziza Alford, Akilah Cathey, and Nikki Lynch," said Kathleen Flores women's rugby head coach Rosalind Chou. "They all showed up with so much heart and intensity and dominated defensively. They have left quite a legacy."
