PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Chancellor Samuel M. Mencoff '78, Vice President for Athletics and Recreation, M. Grace Calhoun '92, Ph.D., announced several staff promotions on Thursday. Colleen Kelly '06, Brian Hiskey, and Kelvin Queliz were each elevated to Senior Associate Director of Athletics. Andrew Kelly was hired as Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Business Development & Revenue Generation. Sean Banno and Amy Dean were each promoted to Associate Director of Athletics.Â
"We are so fortunate to have an exceptional team, and I am proud to announce these well-deserved promotions," Calhoun said. "Our leadership group continues to evolve, and each of these administrators will bring great value to our team and Division."
Colleen Kelly '06 has been named Senior Woman Administrator and the Division's Title IX Liaison, and she will continue to serve as Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Recruiting and Retention. A 2006 alumna with a Business Economics degree, Kelly was named Second Team All-Ivy and scored over 1,000 points as a women's basketball student-athlete at Brown. She later served as an assistant coach in the program and returned to College Hill as an administrator in September 2015. She is the sport supervisor for volleyball, gymnastics, softball, men's crew, and women's crew.
"Brown has always been a place I can call home," said Kelly. "I feel incredibly fortunate to continue to grow and develop here, as the trajectory of Brown Athletics and Recreation is special. I look forward to joining a leadership team with incredible creativity and collaboration at a university that promotes and supports the vision."
Brian Hiskey joined Brown in April 2022, following over five years at Stanford as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. At Brown, Hiskey has led the compliance team and will now serve as Brown's liaison on Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), NCAA & Ivy governance, risk management, audit, legal affairs, and compliance in his new role as Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Compliance. Hiskey is the sport supervisor for field hockey, wrestling, and secondary for women's hockey.Â
"I want to thank Dr. Calhoun for the opportunity to serve the Division of Athletics and Recreation in an elevated capacity," said Hiskey. "I look forward to continuing to work closely with our campus partners to enhance the experiences of our student-athletes."
Kelvin Queliz came to Brown in December 2021 after four seasons at New Orleans as the Associate Athletic Director for External Relations. At Brown, Queliz will continue overseeing athletic communications, content creation, production, and social media teams as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Strategic Communications and Content Creation. He will lead the Division's communication strategy while continuing to serve as sport supervisor for baseball and fencing.Â
"Brown is an amazing place," said Queliz. "I look forward to amplifying our student-athlete experience externally and within the Brown community. Thank you to Grace, Tim (Fitzpatrick), and our amazing external unit."
Sean Banno has been promoted to Associate Director of Athletics, Facilities and Operations. He joined Brown in February 2018 as the Coordinator for Facilities and Operations and moved to Assistant Director of Athletics in 2022. He leads daily operations, including scheduling and facility maintenance. Banno also serves as an event manager for home contests and oversees the facilities and operations unit.
"I want to thank Grace and Tim for giving me this opportunity and allowing me to continue to grow in this Division," said Banno. "I would also like to thank my team for all their hard work; they inspire me and push me to be my best every day."
As Associate Director of Athletics for Recreation, Amy Dean will focus on developing campus initiatives and partnerships across the Brown community to promote the health, physical fitness, and wellness of students, faculty, staff, and recreation members. Dean joined Brown in April 2022 as a Fitness & Wellness Manager for the Division of Athletics and Recreation. She will continue to serve on Brown's Health Promotions Committee (HPC).
"I am so proud of the Recreation team for all we have been able to accomplish together over the past couple of years," said Dean. "I would like to thank Dr. Calhoun for allowing me to take on more of a leadership role and for the unwavering support she has shown Brown Recreation. I am honored and excited for the opportunity as we continue to make Rec the best it can be."
Calhoun noted that adding Andrew Kelly to the internal staff will move the Division forward. "Since I arrived three years ago, Andrew has been a terrific partner for us in his role with Learfield. We are so pleased to add him to our leadership team, and I know that his experience and expertise will be invaluable in a crucial role."
Kelly was recently hired in the newly created position of Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Business Development, and Revenue Generation. He will oversee the marketing and ticketing units and lead efforts to develop revenue streams for the Division. Over the past four years, Kelly has worked closely with the division as the general manager of Learfield's Brown Bears Sports Properties. Before Learfield, Kelly worked at the National Basketball Association (NBA) in Global Marketing.
"I am thrilled to join Brown Athletics & Recreation at a time when fan engagement is a top priority," said Kelly. "I look forward to collaborating with campus partners, the Rhode Island community, and beyond to deliver excitement and enhanced value."
