PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Nine Brown University student-athletes had the opportunity earlier this summer to attend the Black Student-Athlete Summit, which was hosted by the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
The contingent from Brown were part of more than 1,600 attendees from around the country. The mission of the summit is for student-athletes to connect and engage with each other to create innovative solutions and initiatives on their campuses that provide opportunities for black student-athletes in the global workforce after graduation.
Among the attendees from Brown were Triston McDonald and Jamari Myers from football and Layla Shell from women's soccer.

- "The summit exceeded my expectations, especially in terms of networking, as I met many people from diverse backgrounds, such as CEOs, entrepreneurs, and other Ivy League students. Events with all Ivy League members allowed me to gain a better understanding of successful initiatives in creating an inclusive community for Black student-athletes that fostered collaboration. I would definitely recommend this event to anyone interested, and I hope to attend again next year."
- "Attending the BSA Summit was an incredible experience, providing an amazing space for us to connect with other fellow Black student-athletes from all over the country, including those tailing from the Ivy Leagues. There were numerous opportunities to network with individuals who shared similar experiences throughout their journeys in their career paths."
