PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's soccer suffered its first loss of the season, 6-0, to Fairfield at home on Monday night.
"Disappointing result and performance tonight," said Chase Wileman, Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair. "As the head coach of this program, it's my responsibility to make sure that we are prepared and we weren't tonight, so that's on me. We have to use this as a learning experience. It's only the second game of the season, so we have a long way to go. I love our guys when we win, when we lose and I love them when we draw."
The Bears controlled the time of possession in the early going of the match, coming away with four shots in the first nine minutes.
Fairfield would make it a 1-0 lead on its first shot on goal. Sophomore William Pierce played the ball off a Brown header and found the back of the net, unassisted, in the 22nd minute.
It was Pierce again for Fairfield in the 37th minute off a corner kick from graduate student Alex Oliveira to extend the Stags' lead to 2-0 at the half.
Just over two minutes went by in the second half for Fairfield to make it a 3-0 advantage. Grad student Khea Rangihaeata fired a long shot off a corner in the 48th minute.
Freshman Asher Rosen would make it a 4-0 advantage in the 56th minute, senior Alex Marin added another in the 80th minute from Rangihaeata, and sophomore Sam Danner finished it off in the 85th minute.
"Thank you to to our crowd tonight and Friday," said Wileman. "We appreciate the support that we're getting. Stick with us, we will be back, and we will have an improved performance next time."
Brown heads south for its first road test of the season at No. 14 UCF on Saturday at 7 p.m.
