Women's Tennis Secures Ivy Win at Dartmouth
4/7/2023 8:21:00 PM | Women's Tennis
HANOVER, N.H. – Brown women's tennis secured a 4-1 victory on the road over Dartmouth College Friday afternoon.
Â
The Bears are now 14-6 overall and 2-0 in Ivy League competition, while the Big Green fall to 4-10 and 0-2 in the league.
Â
"Our team showed a lot of resilience and fight in today's match," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "We came out really strong in doubles, especially at line one. Britany Lau and Addie Ahlstrom were able to make mid-match adjustments, and closed out their match confidently."
Â
Sophomore Addison Ahlstrom and senior Britany Lau took first doubles, 6-2, while sophomore Lindsey Hofflander and freshman Phoebe Peus won third doubles, 6-4, for the first point of the day.
Â
In singles, junior Ali Benedetto (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) won first singles, freshman Vivian Miller (77-65, 5-7, 6-2) took second singles and Peus (7-5, 6-2) secured fourth singles for the match win.
Â
"In singles, we didn't come out with a sense of urgency that was needed against a gritty opponent and lost the first sets in four of the six matches. Our players really had to dig deep to come out on top today. Phoebe problem solved to win a tough first set and then elevated her level in the second to give us a 2-1 lead. At line one there were a lot of momentum shifts until the middle of the third set, with Ali down 1-4, she stepped up her game and closed out the match with two aces showing courage and moxie. Vivian Miller played her trademark first strike tennis against an experienced senior. After splitting sets, Vivian entered the third set with clarity and confidence and executed her game plan perfectly to clinch the match for us."
Â
"Across the board our team showed resilience and fight which is a trademark of the championship culture our players are working hard to embrace. I look forward to another tough challenge against Harvard on Sunday."
