HANOVER, N.H. – Brown finished with one win and two losses in the Varsity Division at the 2023 Ivy 7s Championship at Brophy Field on the campus of Dartmouth on Saturday.
Brown took a win over Princeton to bounce back from losses to host Dartmouth and Harvard earlier in the tournament.
"It was a great effort to start the day against Dartmouth but we had a midday lull and have to be strong out of the gate for each match," said Kathleen Flores Women's Rugby Head Coach Rosalind Chou. "The squad bounced back well against Princeton and we were happy with how we ended the day. We are going to rest up and look forward to the chance to compete in the CRC.
"7s captains Mahdia Parker and Morgan Cunningham were exceptional leaders today and we got to see substantial minutes from all of our first-years who brought a lot of energy to the squad. I'd also like to shout-out Jania Vandevoorde for her phsyicality and consistency."
Brown opened pool play against host Dartmouth and dropped a 17-5 final to the Big Green. Nikki Lynch recorded her first try of the day 4:30 into the first half to give Brown a 5-0 lead. Dartmouth answered and made it 12-5 at the half and added a third try in the second half.
The Bears squared off against Harvard in the second game of the day at noon, falling 24-5 to the Crimson in a hard-fought contest. Morgan Cunningham touched down for the Bruno try late in the second half.
Brown finished the tournament on a high note with a 38-0 victory over the Princeton Tigers. The Bears jumped to an early lead as Parker and Carter Bedford scored in the opening minutes with Julia Murray hitting one conversion.
Jania Vandevoorde and Kate Muldoon recorded tries with Murray adding a conversion to double Brown's lead eight minutes into the game.
Lynch and Makayla Atoigue finished the match with tries with Murray and Lynch hitting the respective conversions to push the score to 38-0.
Brown closes the 2023 spring season at the 2023 Collegiate Rugby Championship National 7s in Washington D.C. Brown is one of 16 teams in the Women's Premier Division field and will play on Friday (Apr. 28) and Saturday (Apr. 29).
