Women's Fencing Finishes 6-1 at Brandeis Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brown Bears captured six team wins at the Brandeis Invitational Sunday, including dominating wins over Lawrence, Yeshiva, Drew, and LIU and tight wins over St. John's and Tufts.
"Women's Fencing had a very successful day today at the Brandeis Invitational, with big wins over St. John's and Tufts," said head coach Alex Ripa. "The only loss of the day was to Cornell in the first round, but our team came back strong and fought hard for the rest of a very long day! I'm extremely pleased with the result and proud of our team!"
Brown opened the Invitational with an 18-9 loss to Cornell in the opening round. Anika Breker posted a 2-1 record in the foil and Rebecca Whang went 2-1 in the sabre. Sofia Yee-Wadsworth went 3-0 in the epee and posted a 12-3 record on the day.
The Bears bounced back with three straight wins over LIU, Yeshiva, and Drew – combining to outscore those opponents 68-13. Dasha Smuk and Amy Mao both went 3-0 against Yeshiva wit Mao also winning three points against LIU.
Brown returned after a round off against St. John's and claimed a 16-11 win behind a 7-2 sabre performance. Jessie Chen went 3-0 in the foil and Alyssa Sun was a perfect 3-0 in the sabre.
Bruno then took a 24-3 win over Lawrence with the foil trio of Feyza Achilova, Samantha Chon, and Apoorva Talwalkar all finishing 3-0. Smuk and Mao added 3-0 records in the epee.
The Bears closed out the Invitational with a 16-11 win over Tufts with 6-3 wins in the foil and epee. Amy Mao, Dasha Smuk, and Sofia Yee-Wadsworth all finished 2-1 in the epee against the Jumbos.
