Brown Hosts First Day of Brown Classic

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown women's tennis hosted the first day of the Brown Classic on Saturday. Teams competing along side the Bears are Yale, UMass, Dartmouth, UNC Wilmington, Villanova, URI, BU and UConn.

Brown faced UMass and UNC Wilmington on day one and won both matches. Senior Ali Benedetto and junior Addison Ahlstrom won both their doubles matches, while junior Gabby Soliman, sophomore Phoebe Peus and freshmen Anne Yang and Dani Ben-Abraham all won singles matches against UMass.

Peus and junior Lindsey Hofflander won doubles against UNC Wilmington, as did Yang and Ben-Abraham. Winning singles against the Seahawks were Ahlstrom, sophomore Vivian Miller, Ben-Abraham and freshman Hannah Shen.

"UMass and UNC Wilmington really challenged our team today," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "We had to dig deep to pull out the wins and our players responded when most needed. I was impressed with our freshmen and their performances today. Anne came back from a set down to clinch a win against UMass while Hannah battled back from a set down to clinch against UNC Wilmington. They both competed very well and kept their cool. Dani was relentlessly aggressive in her two decisive singles wins today. Overall, I wouldn't say our team played their best tennis today, but we definitely out-competed our opposition."
