CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – Two members of the Brown women's hockey team have been announced as one of three finalists for major postseason awards from the ECAC, the league announced on Wednesday. Sophomore goaltender Kaley Doyle is a finalist for ECAC Rookie of the Year, and first-year head coach Melanie Ruzzi has been tabbed as a finalist for the conference's Coach of the Year.
Doyle stepped into the role of Brown's No. 1 goaltender early this season and had a breakout campaign, finishing the year with a .940 save percentage in league games, which ranked third in the conference, and ranked fifth with 498 saves. Her six ECAC wins were tops among all rookie netminders. She was in goal for all six of Brown's wins, including a pair of 1-0 shutout victories over Dartmouth on Nov. 12, and at No. 9 Quinnipiac on Feb. 19. She was twice named the ECAC Rookie of the Week, and once the ECAC Goaltender of the Week during the season. Over her last 11 games of the season, the Livonia, Michigan native posted a .944 save percentage and a 1.70 GAA, and was in net for all six of Brown's victories this season.
In her first year as a collegiate head coach, Ruzzi helped guide the Bears to their best overall record since the 2016-17 season, and their most ECAC wins since the 2008-09 season, giving them their highest seed in the ECAC standings in a decade. The team made significant strides forward throughout the season, posting a 4-2-3 record over its final nine games, which included a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents in No. 7 Yale and on the road at No. 9 Quinnipiac.
The other Rookie of the Year finalists include Cornell forward Lily Delianedis and St. Lawrence forward Abby Hustler, while Ruzzi is joined by Harvard's Katey Stone and Yale's Mark Bolding as Coach of the Year finalists. The winners of both awards will be announced on March 2.
