Women's Tennis Season Preview
9/16/2021
The Brown women’s tennis team will open its season at the Brown Invitational this Friday, Sept. 17. The event runs through the weekend and concludes on Sunday, Sept. 19.
"The team is excited to have the opportunity to compete again,” head coach Lucie Schmidhauser said. “Our primary goal this fall is to compete hard no matter the score and to focus on playing with courage during pressure points. We want to be the team no one wants to play because of our grit and determination to fight for every point. I look forward to tracking our improvement in these areas throughout the season."
It will be the Bear’s first fall season since 2019, after the 2020 year was cancelled. More than half of the players on the roster will be taking part in their first collegiate action, with eight of the 13 student-athletes either being a part of the freshman or sophomore class.

Speaking of that roster, returners include seniors Julia Newman, Ryan Peus, and Sophia Reddy, and juniors Gabriella Dellacono and Britany Lau.
Brown also boasts four-player freshman and sophomore classes. Ali Benedetto, Nora Lee, Olivia Mariotti, and Rebekah Rest make up the sophomores, while Addison Ahlstrom, Lindsey Hofflander, Gabby Soliman, and Selena Williams complete the freshman class.
Lau returns after leading the Bears during the 2019-20 season with 28 combined victories, with 16 coming in singles. She also advanced to the quarterfinals in singles at the ITA Northeast Regionals.

The Bears’ 2021 fall schedule consists of six tournaments with the possibility of a seventh at the ITA Fall Nationals. They will compete at the Brown Invitational, Bulldog Invitational, ITA East and Super Regionals, Brown Classic, and Brown Quad.
In the spring, Brown will play seven nonconference matches before opening Ivy League play on April 2 at Yale. The Bears will play home matches against Penn (April 9), Princeton (April 10), and Dartmouth (April 24), and will hit the road against Columbia (April 16), Cornell (April 17), and Harvard (April 22).
