ASHAWAY, R.I. – Brown equestrian finished third among eight schools in the season-opening Inter-Regional Show held Saturday at Hunter Ridge.
Brown tallied one blue ribbon, two second-place finishes, and two third-place finishes in the event.
"This was our first competition after a long break with our smallest roster in 25 years," said head coach Michaela Scanlon. "We placed just behind URI and Roger Williams and ahead of Johnson & Wales. We have a solid core and with the new athletes joining the team we will be a competitive force."
Elena Newman (Gainesville, Fla.) captured a blue ribbon in the limit fences. Daphne Maniatis (Chevy Chase, Md.) finished second in the novice flat. Newman also finished sixth in the limit flat.
Maniatis pointed out in the novice flat division, which means she will now compete in the Limit Flat and Fences divisions at future shows.
Alix Hamon (Sandia Park, N.M.) took second and teammate Grace Skavdahl (Harrison, Neb.) took third in the introductory flat.
Samantha Weinerman (Chester, N.J.) claimed third in both the open fences and flat.
Jonna Batten took sixth in the pre-novice.
Brown continues the fall schedule on Saturday (Oct. 30) at the Roger Williams Show at Nora Harris Equestrian Center in Portsmouth, R.I.
