PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seven Brown University varsity student-athletes as well as one club sport student-athlete have earned Community Sport Fellowships through the Brown University Swearer Center for Public Service.
Â
The Bears' seven varsity student-athletes who earned the fellowships include Andrew Bolton '20 (Football), Noelle Cooke '21 (Women's Crew), Finnegan Gibbons '21 (Men's Lacrosse), Maria Guerrero '21 (Women's Soccer), Kendra Offiaeli '20 (Women's Track & Field), Ryan Putman '21 (Football), and Olivia Wilson '21 (Women's Swimming & Diving).
Â
Adam Eberle '22 from the club men's rugby program also garnered one of the eight fellowships.
Â
The Community Sport Fellows Program is a dynamic fellowship for Brown student-athletes focused on building undergraduate research skills while strengthening the capacity of community organizations to deliver sport opportunities for Providence youth.
Â
In addition to coaching local youth throughout the summer, Fellows will participate in a weekly seminar designed to help them develop and diversify their research skills and connect their academic interests and athletic skills to local communities. Students will work both independently and as a cohort to map sport opportunities for children in Providence and address specific questions about children's health, (obesity reduction, injury prevention and access to sport). The Community Sport Summer Fellows program is a partnership between the Swearer Center for Public Service, the Athletic Department, and the Hassenfeld Institute for Children's Health.
