CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown women's rugby team fielded two teams at Ivy 7s on Saturday at Mignone Field. The Bears reached the third place game but were defeated by Princeton, 26-12.
"Unfortunately some costly mistakes led to our loss in the final match," said head coach Kathy Flores. "Since we played the same team a bit before we thought we had fixed those issues, but we still have work to do before next week at Bowdoin."
A Side
The Crimson won the first match on A Side, 38-0. Brown opened match two with hard tackles but Dartmouth built a 21-0 lead by the half and took the match 33-0. In match three, senior Louise Leitao (Porto Alegre, Brazil) opened with a try as Brown trailed 10-7 to Princeton at the break. Leitao touched down her second try as the Bears pulled ahead 12-10 but the Tigers came back for a 20-12 victory.
Leitao continued her scoring ways and scored the first try of the third-place match versus Princeton. After the Tigers took a 19-7 lead after one half, Leitao recorded her second try to bring the score to 26-12, which would end up being the final.
B Side
Harvard took the first game of the B Side, 29-0. The Bears squared off against Dartmouth in match two. Sophomore Janelys Torres (Lawrence, Mass.) had some key tackles but the Big Green jumped out to a 10-0 lead by halftime and would win the match.
Brown will next close out the 7s season on Saturday, April 20 at Polar Bears 7s, starting at 10:00 a.m. and hosted by Bowdoin.
