Van Rootselaar, Smith Earn Brown Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Field hockey sophomore forward Danielle van Rootselaar and football sophomore running back Allen Smith have earned Brown University Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, Brown announced on Monday.

Danielle van Rootselaar, Field Hockey, Sophomore, Bilthoven, Netherlands
Sophomore forward Danielle van Rootselaar factored into all three of the Bears' goals as Brown topped Dartmouth, 3-1, on Saturday at Goldberger Family Field. A native of Bilthoven, Netherlands, van Rootselaar totaled four points on a goal and two assists in the game. She posted assists on the Bears' goals at the 32:32 and 47:00 marks, helping to give Brown a 2-0 lead. She netted an insurance goal for the team at 50:19, making the score 3-1.

Sophomore running back Allen Smith tallied three total touchdowns as Brown battled Rhode Island for the Governor's Cup on Saturday at Brown Stadium. A native of Westerville, Ohio, Smith finished with two receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown on the day. He scored on a five-yard reception on the Bears' opening drive before finding the end zone on a three-yard rush and two-yard reception in the fourth quarter. His consecutive touchdowns in the fourth allowed Brown to take a 28-24 lead on the Rams.
