PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's rugby team was defeated by Harvard, 42-14, on Saturday at Marvel Field. The loss halted the Bears' three-game win streak while the Crimson pushed their streak to four straight.
"I am so proud of our team," said head coach Kathy Flores. "We came out and scored first against the top team in the league and though the score may not show it, we put up an extremely tough game."
Brown (4-3) struck first in the match-up when freshman Mahdia Parker (Harlem, N.Y.) scored in her fourth-consecutive match for a 7-0 lead with the addition of a conversion by junior Olivia Duba (San Ramon, Calif.). Harvard (5-1) responded with a try and conversion from center to knot the score, 7-7, before the visitor struck again for a 12-7 advantage.
The Crimson went up 17-7 while the Bears were a man-down due to injury. Harvard added one more score before the end of the half to bring the contest to 22-7.
Harvard opened the second half scoring (27-7) while Duba forced a failed conversion when she pressured the kick.
The Crimson scored three straight before an offload from junior Karina Wang (Ottawa, Ontario) set up sophomore Zy Thomas (Fairfield, Calif.) for a try to bring the game to its final of 42-14.
Brown will next compete against Queens on Saturday, Oct. 26 on the campus of Mount St. Mary's starting at 11:00 a.m.
