
Women's Rugby Places Fourth at Ivy 7s

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's rugby team finished fourth for the second consecutive year at Ivy 7s on Saturday at West Windsor Fields.
Brown, Harvard, Columbia and Cornell made up Pool A in the tournament while Dartmouth, Penn, Princeton, Yale were a part of Pool B.
The Bears opened the tournament with a 32-0 thrashing of Columbia. Juniors Louise Leitao (Porto Alegre, Brazil) and Elise Hinkle (Sudbury, Mass.) registered two tries each while senior Bethany Dubois (Newtown, Conn.) and junior Dylan Jack (Pasadena, Calif.) also added scores. Leitao had a successful conversion kick as well.
Brown squared off against Cornell in match two and ran out to a 24-0 lead by halftime. Leitao and Hinkle scored the first two tries while Hinkle also put in a successful conversion kick. Freshman Karina Wang (Ottawa, Ontario) closed the half with two straight tries while Hinkle added a conversion. Freshman Olivia Duba (San Ramon, Calif.) opened the second half scoring and was followed by Wang. The Big Red added a try towards the end of the contest to bring the final score to 34-7.
Harvard defeated the Bears 46-5 in the third match with Leitao recording the lone try for Brown.
Going 2-1 in pool play led the Bears to the third/fourth place match against host Princeton where the score was knotted 7-7 at halftime. The Tigers were able to gain the edge in the final half for a 19-14 victory.
Brown will next compete at the Pioneer 7s hosted by Sacred Heart on Saturday, April 21 to close out the 7s season.
