
Men's Tennis Defeats NJIT, 6-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team defeated NJIT, 6-1, on Sunday at the Pizzitola Sports Center to improve to 10-2 on the season.
The Bears swept doubles to open the day, with wins by freshman Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) and senior Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) in second doubles (6-1) and senior Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) and junior Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) in first doubles (6-3) to take the point. Senior Jack Haworth (Corby, England) and sophomore Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) also posted a victory in the round, 6-2, in the third position.
Brown next won four straight singles matches to take a commanding 5-0 lead en route to its victory. Haworth got things started in first singles with a 6-3, 6-2 showing. Lam followed in the fourth spot with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Next, Walker (6-1, 7-5, second) and Tarwid (6-4, 7-6 (4), third) scored victories. NJIT got on the board with a win in sixth singles before Tan closed out the action in fifth singles with a 7-5, 6-4 win.
The Bears next compete in the Mountain Pacific Invitational, hosted by No. 48 New Mexico, on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4.
