Men's Tennis Defeats Fordham and Fairfield

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's tennis team defeated both Fordham and Fairfield at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday.
In match one of the day, the Bears defeated Fordham, 6-1. Brown won the doubles point with senior Jack Haworth (Corby, England) and sophomore Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) starting off with a 6-1 win in the second spot. Senior Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) and freshman Teddy van Eck (Rye, N.Y.) closed the doubles round with a 7-6 (2) victory in third doubles.
The Bears next won five straight singles matches to put the match out of reach. Tariwd first posted a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win in the fourth spot. Haworth followed in first singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win and next came Walker (6-1, 6-3, Second), sophomore Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) (8-1, Fifth) and junior Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) (8-3, Sixth) to finish singles off.
In the second match of the afternoon, Brown blanked Fairfield, 7-0. Tarwid and van Eck led off with a 6-2 win in third doubles while senior Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) and freshman Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) claimed the point for the Bears with a 6-3 first doubles win.
The Bears started singles in order, winning first, second third and fourth singles with Haworth (6-0, 6-1), Walker (6-2, 6-1), Tarwid (6-2, 6-3) and Lam (6-2, 6-0) victorious. Tan next won in sixth singles (6-1, 6-1) and Litsky sealed the shutout with a 6-4, 6-2 showing in the fifth spot.
The Bears next host Fairleigh Dickinson and Binghamton on Saturday, Feb. 10 followed by Boston University on Sunday, Feb. 11. Saturday's matches will start at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. while Sunday's contest will begin at 2:00 p.m.
