
Men's Tennis Topples Elon and UConn

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team defeated Elon, 5-2, and UConn, 7-0, on Saturday at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
In the first match of the day against the Phoenix, seniors Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.) and Lucas Da Silveira (Incline Village, Nev.) won their first doubles match, 6-2, but Elon would take the doubles point with victories in second and third doubles.
After a narrow loss in first singles, the Bears went on to capture the remaining five matches to pick up a 5-2 win. Junior Jack Haworth (Corby, England) posted a 6-0, 6-4 win in second singles and was followed by Garcia in third singles (6-4, 6-4). Freshman Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) next won in the fourth spot with a 6-2, 6-4 showing. Freshman Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) (6-4, 6-0 - fifth) and sophomore Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) (6-3, 6-3 - sixth) closed out the singles wins for the Bears.
Against the Huskies in the second match of the day, Haworth and junior Anthony Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) won second doubles, 6-2, and Tan and Walker won the doubles point for Brown in third doubles (6-3).
The Bears next swept UConn in singles play, 6-0, with Haworth (6-1, 6-4 - first), junior Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) (6-1,6-0 - second), Litsky (6-2, 6-0 - third), Walker (6-3, 6-1 - fourth), Da Silveira (6-3, 6-4 - fifth) and Arocho (6-4, 6-4 - sixth) all posting victories.
The Bears will next travel to Penn State on Saturday, March 4 for a 10:00 a.m. match and then follow with a trip to Yale on Sunday, March 5 for a 2:00 p.m. match.
