NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Brown field hockey team was defeated by Yale, 4-0, in its final game of the season at Johnson Field on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Hannah Leckey (Madison, Conn.) recorded a defensive save in the contest, which moved her into a tie for third all-time at Brown in defensive saves for a season.
Yale (9-8, 2-5 Ivy League) opened the contest with some offensive pressure and had a scoring chance in the 10th minute on a breakaway but junior Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) came out to make a sliding save to keep the game scoreless.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead just before the end of the half, with a score from Brooke Reese at 30:04. Yale soon increased its lead to two when Carol Middough put in a tally at 32:41.
Middough tacked on two more for Yale in the second stanza, at 59:14 and 67:30, for the final score of 4-0. Leckey made her defensive save at 67:11 in the frame for her fourth of the season, which tied her with Kelsey Grossman '14 (2012) for third all-time for defensive saves in a season.
Brown (1-16, 0-7 Ivy League) saw an increased output in offense for the second, generating five more shots than the opening period.
Hammaker finished the contest with 13 saves, including eight in the second half. It was her ninth double-digit save effort of the season. Sydney Terroso made four stops on the other side for Yale.
The Bulldogs held the advantage for penalty corners in each half, holding a 2-1 edge after one and a 5-2 lead in the second.
