
Women's Hockey Falls at No. 5/5 St. Lawrence, 7-2

CANTON, N.Y. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 5/5 St. Lawrence, 7-2, on Friday night at Appleton Arena. Freshman Veronica Alois (Andover, Mass.) and junior Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.) picked up the goals for the Bears.
St. Lawrence (17-2-2, 9-1-1 ECAC) started the game's scoring at 6:38 of the first period from Hannah Miller. Later in the opening stanza, Brown (4-14-0, 2-9-0 ECAC) had a 5-on-3 advantage after back-to-back tripping calls and had a few scoring chances but were unable to get the puck across the line. The first ended with the Saints holding a 12-4 shot lead. Both teams struck out on the power play, with Brown going 0-for-2 and SLU 0-for-1.
The Bears tied the game just 48 seconds into the second, on Alois' second goal of the season. The rookie fired a shot from the blue line that beat the Saints' goalie. Sophomore Leah Olson (East Harwich, Mass.) assisted the score.
St. Lawrence reclaimed its lead at 6:42 of the second with a tally from Emily Middagh. Kennedy Marchment added the Saints' third goal at 8:13 on the power play while Lydia Grauer's rebound tally (17:27) made the score 4-1.
Shots were down for both teams in the second with SLU generating eight and the Bears putting up two. St. Lawrence was 1-for-1 on the power play while Brown was 0-for-1.
Brown got back on the board at 3:28 of the third when Donovan collected sophomore Bridget Carey's (Weymouth, Mass.) rebound for her team-best seventh goal of the season to pull the Bears within two of St. Lawrence (4-2). Alois also contributed an assist.
From there the Saints regained control and scored three more goals, the first from Brooke Webster at 10:33, the second by Dakota Golde at 12:06 and the final from Michelle Alonardo on the power play at 15:46.
St. Lawrence finished the contest 2-for-4 on the power play while Brown was 0-for-4. Senior Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) concluded the game with 27 saves while Grace Harrison made eight stops.
The Bears return to action tomorrow (Jan. 14) at No. 3/3 Clarkson for a 3:00 p.m. contest at Cheel Arena.
