
Men's Soccer Hosts Bryant in Season Opener on Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team opens the 2016 season on Friday, Sept. 2 (7 PM) when the Bears host intrastate rival Bryant at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

BROWN LAST SEASON
Brown went 10-5-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the Ivy League last season, finishing third in the league standings. The Bears ended the season on a five-game unbeaten streak with four wins during the stretch. Five players earned All-Ivy honors at the end of the season, including First Team selection Jack Hagstrom, who was also named the Co-Rookie of the Year.
TEAM CAPTAINS
Senior Nate Pomeroy and junior James Myall will serve as the team captains for the 2016 season. Pomeroy appeared in 16 games for the Bears in 2015 and finished with a pair of goals against UMass and Boston University. He also added an assist in the team's 2-1 victory against Penn. Pomeroy, who posted 16 shots last Fall, heads into the 2016 season with 41 career games played. Myall has started 22 out of 24 games played over his first two seasons with the Bears, including a pair of assists as a freshman. He bolstered the Brown defense as a rookie in 2014, when he started 16 games and helped the team finish with a 0.98 goals against average.
BROWN IN SEASON OPENERS
The Bears are 48-34-8 all-time in season openers and are 4-2 under the direction of seventh-year head coach Patrick Laughlin.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant went 3-8-5 overall last season and 1-3-3 in Northeast Conference play. After making the Northeast Conference Tournament in 2013 and 2014, the Bulldogs suffered eight losses in 2015, seven of which were one-goal defeats. Junior Thomas Binder ranked second on the team in scoring with nine points in 2015.
The Bulldogs opened the 2016 campaign with a home loss to New Hampshire, 3-1. Senior Chris McCormick notched the lone goal, while Nick Stewart made three saves in net.
COMING UP
Brown will kick off the 2016 season with three straight home games, hosting Bryant, Georgia State and SMU. From there, the Bears will round out the month of September with five consecutive road contests.
