
Equestrian Wins Four Championship Classes at Ivy Show

HANOVER, N.H – Brown University equestrian won four titles in the championship classes and claimed four blue ribbons in the opening round to finish third as a team in its season finale at the Ivy Show at Dartmouth College on Saturday.
Sophomore Anna Seto (Barrington, R.I.) finished in a tie for overall reserve high point rider of the show as she won the championship classes in both novice fences and novice flat.
Senior Tess Carter (Tucson, Ariz.) captured the over fences championship crown while sophomore Elizabeth Rao (Andover, Mass.) won the championship class for walk-trot-canter.
For the fence championships, riders' raw scores from the original round determined the title winners while for flat championships, the top two riders from the opening round rode off against one another in the championship class.
Also in the championship classes, senior captains Alisa Berg (St. Louis, Mo.) and Elena Buchsbaum (Madison, N.J.) and junior captain Kabisa Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.) each qualified for open flat, giving the Bears three of the top six riders in the division. Berg took reserve champion with a second-place finish while Baughen and Buchsbaum placed fifth and sixth respectively.
Baughen came in sixth in open fences while sophomore Victoria Flagg (Great Falls, Va.) finished fifth in intermediate flat. Sophomore Madison Kuhn (Lancaster, Pa.) came in sixth in novice flat while sophomore Genoveva Eguiguren (Quito, Ecuador) and freshman Yinan Liu placed third and fourth respectively in walk-trot.
In the opening round, Carter won her class in open fences, Baughen came in fourth, Buchsbaum placed third in her debut in the division, and Flagg registered a fifth-place finish.
In intermediate fences, sophomore Annaliese Fries (Kirkland, Wash.) placed sixth, sophomore Alejandra Zamora (New Canaan, Conn.) came in sixth in her debut in the division – though will remain in novice fences for the start of the 2016-17 season – and Berg finished fifth.
Moving to novice fences, Kuhn came in fourth while senior Tori Sasaki (London, England) placed fifth. Seto won her class, junior Clara Mae Maynard (Chilmark, Mass.) placed fourth, senior Alexa Van Hattum (Grand Rapids, Mich.) came in fifth, and sophomore Caroline Marks (Seattle, Wash.) did not place.
In open flat, Berg won her class while Buchsbaum came in second in hers as each rider made her debut in the division. Baughen also placed second, sophomore Sara Nordstrom (Medina, Wash.) came in fifth, Carter placed fourth, and junior Samantha Spear (Chester Springs, Pa.) took third.
In intermediate flat, Flagg placed third while Fries and Maynard each came in fifth. In novice flat, Seto, Kuhn, and Zamora each finished second, Van Hattum and Sasaki each placed fifth, and Marks came in sixth.
Moving to walk-trot-canter, freshman Wallace Douglas won her class while Rao placed second. Senior Noel Park (Baton Rouge, La.) came in third while sophomore Rebecca Chernick (Weston, Mass.) placed fifth. In walk-trot, Liu claimed second, Eguiguren captured third, and junior Casey Fisher (Oro Valley, Ariz.) did not place.
BEQ alumna Lindsay Wong '13 made her debut in the alumnae classes, finishing in second in both alumnae fences and alumnae flat.
During the 2015-16 season, Brown qualified 10 riders for regionals, three riders for zones, and finished in second place in the IHSA Zone 1 Region 1 regular season standings.
