
Women's Tennis Edged by No. 69 Penn, 4-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team was defeated by No. 69 Penn, 4-3, on Saturday at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Brown and Penn split singles play, 3-3, as it was the doubles point that Penn claimed in the beginning of the match that sealed the Quakers' win.
Starting off the match in doubles play, Penn took first and third doubles, both with a score of 6-4, to take a 1-0 lead going into singles.
Sophomore Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif.), with a No. 94 ranking in the ITA, won second singles in a closely contended match, 7-6, 7-5. Sophomore Maddie Stearns (Short Hills, N.J.) posted the next Brown victory in fourth singles, defeating her opponent, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Katie Ta (Mission Viejo, Calif.) won sixth singles, 6-3, 6-2.
The Bears will next play at Cornell on Saturday, April 9 and then at No. 37 Columbia the following day, Sunday, April 10. Both matches are set to begin at noon.
