
Women's Hockey Opens Second Half on the Road at No. 9/9 Robert Morris

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's hockey team will play at No. 9/9 Robert Morris on Friday, Dec. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 31 at the RMU Island Sports Center to open the second half of the season. Friday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m. while the series finale on Saturday will start at 2:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
Robert Morris enters the contest with a 12-1-5 overall ranking and a 7-0-1 mark in College Hockey America. The Colonials are ranked ninth in both the USCHO.com Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. RMU is undefeated in its last 11 games, going 8-0-3 in that span. The team's only loss this season came on the road, at Merrimack on Oct. 21 (4-3 OT). Brittany Howard leads the team in points with 29, on nine goals and a team-high 20 assists. Jaycee Gebhard leads the team in goals with 12, and also has 11 assists for 23 points, ranking second on the team. Jessica Dodds and Lauren Bailey have split goaltending duties, each of them starting nine games. Dodds has a slight lead in goals against average (2.04) and save percentage (.931) while Bailey leads in wins (7). As a team, the Colonials are getting outshot by their opponents, 29.4-28.7, but have a one goal advantage per game over them 3.28-2.28. When playing at home this season, RMU is unbeaten at 5-0-3.
BROWN TALKING POINTS
The Bears are led in scoring by freshman Alley Rempe who has three goals and a team-high five assists for eight points. The newcomer was named ECAC Rookie of the Week in the team's first weekend of play (Oct. 26). Junior assistant captain Sam Donovan leads the team in goals with five, and has two assist for seven points, good for second on the team in overall points. Donovan registered her second-career hat trick against Sacred Heart on Oct. 22 in a 7-0 win. Senior Monica Elvin leads the team in games started in net (8), and has recorded five 30+ saves games on the season. When scoring first in a contest, the Bears are a perfect 3-0-0 this year. Brown is also 2-0-0 when out shooting its opponent.
LAST TIME VS. ROBERT MORRIS
The Bears and the Colonials have met just one time previously, with Robert Morris coming out on top, 4-2, in a game played at Brown on Nov. 23, 2007.
LAST TIME OUT
Brown was last defeated, 5-2, by Merrimack on Nov. 29 at Meehan Auditorium to close out the first half of the season. The Bears came back to score two goals in the second period to knot the game, 2-2, but the Warriors retaliated with three goals in the third to claim a 5-2 non-conference win.
UNDERCLASSMAN LEADING SCORING FOR SECOND-STRAIGHT YEAR
The freshman and sophomore classes lead the Bears in scoring for 2016-17, and for the second-straight year. Together the two classes have 15 goals, 25 assists and 40 points, which makes up 63% of the team's goals, 71% of the squad's assists and 68% of the Bears' points. The sophomores lead all classes in goals (9), assists (12) and points (21).
In 2015-16, Brown's freshmen and sophomores made up 62% of the team's scoring (61 points), which included 64% of the Bears' goals (24) and a little over half (54%) of the team's assists (37). The freshman group (now sophomores) led all of the classes in assists (26) and points (38), while the sophomores (now juniors) and freshmen shared the lead in goals (12).
COMMON OPPONENTS
Robert Morris and Brown have played four common opponents in Providence, RPI, Merrimack and Clarkson. The Colonials went 3-1-3 against those teams, picking up two wins at Providence (3-2, 3-2), a win and a tie against RPI (6-3 W, 1-1 T), a loss and a tie at Merrimack (4-3 L OT, 3-3 T) and a tie against No. 5/5 Clarkson (3-3 T) in the Windjammer Classic.
Brown has gone 0-4 against the same teams, with a 4-1 loss against RPI, an 8-1 defeat vs. No. 7/6 Clarkson, a 7-3 loss against Providence and a 5-2 loss versus Merrimack.
TWO-SPORT ATHLETE
Freshman forward Veronica Alois is also a member of Brown's women's soccer team. The Andover, Mass. native appeared in 13 of the soccer team's 16 games and tallied an assist on the season.
Alois appeared in her first hockey game on Nov. 26 against Providence in the 22nd Mayor's Cup and scored her first collegiate goal in the contest.
NEXT UP
The Bears remain on the road and will play at Rensselaer on Friday, Jan. 6 and at Union on Sat. Jan. 7. Friday's game will start at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday's contest will begin at 3:00 p.m. In the first meeting of the season, Brown defeated Union, 3-1 (Nov. 4) and fell to RPI, 4-1 (Nov. 5).
