PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Eric Gylling scored the only goal of the contest in the 64th minute to push Harvard past the Brown men's soccer team, 1-0, in Friday evening's Ivy League contest at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Brown dropped to 6-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the Ivy League, while Harvard improved to 7-3-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in the conference.
Kyle Parks made four saves to pick up the win for the Crimson, while Erik Hanson (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) turned away three shots for the Bears.
Brown jumped out with a pair of shots in the opening six minutes, but the Crimson settled in defensively throughout the rest of the stanza and outshot the home side, 5-2.
Gylling put the Crimson on the board at 63:30 with his first tally of the season. Christian Sady sent a free kick into the box, where a crowd of players chased the ball into the back corner, but Gylling was able to push a shot past Hanson to make it 1-0.
Brown had a solid attempt with 10 minutes remaining, when Matthew Chow (Vancouver, British Columbia) broke free on a feed from Nico Lozada (Dallas, Texas), but Parks rushed out and denied the shot to break up the attempt. Chow had one more shot blocked during the final five minutes as the Crimson held on for the win.
Chow paced the Bears with four shots, while the two teams were even with nine shots apiece. Brown edged Harvard in corners, 7-4.
Next up, Brown will play host to No. 3 Clemson on Sunday at 12:30 PM.
