
Women's Hockey Falls at RPI, 2-0

TROY, N.Y. – The Brown women's hockey team was defeated at Rensselaer, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in ECAC action at the Houston Field House. With the game, the Bears close out the first half of the season with a 3-9-0 overall record, and a 1-5-0 mark in conference play. RPI moves to 5-9-2 on the season and 3-4-1 in the ECAC.
RPI got on the board early in the first period, when Alexa Gruschow scored an unassisted goal 5:08 into the stanza. The Engineers' offense came out shooting in the opening period, generating 13 shots to the Bears' six.
Both teams skated to a scoreless second period, as RPI carried a 1-0 lead into the third period. The shot total was closer in the second, as Brown recorded eight shots while RPI tallied 12.
The score remained 1-0 late into the third when junior goalie Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif,) was pulled in favor of an extra skater at 18:42, but at 19:05, the Engineers were able to seal their victory with an empty net goal by Makenna Thomas.
Elvin saved 33 of the 34 shots she saw on the day while Lovisa Selander made 19 saves.
Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play in the contest.
The Bears are off until New Year's Day when they travel to Princeton for a 7:00 p.m. game. Brown will then compete at Quinnipiac the following day, Saturday, Jan. 2, in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
