
Brown At Yale On Fox College Sports Atlantic

Providence, R.I. - Brown will look to move up the Ivy League standings on Saturday, November 7, traveling to the Yale Bowl to battle the Yale Bulldogs. The Bears have had success at the Yale Bowl, posting a 7-2 mark since 1997. The game is televised on Fox College Sports Atlantic and is also streamed on FoxSportsGo.com, starting at 12:30pm.
The Bears: In three losses this season, Brown (4-3, 2-2 Ivy) has averaged 5.0 turnovers per game. Last week, the Bears turned it over five times in a 48-28 loss to Penn at Brown Stadium. Junior wide receiver Alex Jette made eight catches for 145 yards and a 34-yard touchdown reception.
The Bulldogs: Yale (4-3, 1-3 Ivy) was unable to score an offensive touchdown against Columbia's stingy defense, falling to the Lions by a 17-7 margin. Yale's lone score came on an 80-yard punt return by Jason Alessi with 9:08 left in the opening quarter.
Brown vs. Yale- 120th Meeting: Brown and Yale have met 119 times, dating back to 1880, with the Bulldogs holding an 80-34-5 series advantage. Yale has won the last two meetings, including a 45-42 shootout last year at Brown Stadium. Brown had won the previous two games against the Bulldogs, including in 2012, a 20-0 win in Providence, shutting out the Bulldogs for the first time since 1949. Brown head coach Phil Estes is 9-8 lifetime against the Bulldogs.

Fuller Second Nationally In Completions: Senior co-captain Marcus Fuller (Ashland, OH) leads the Ivy League and ranks second nationally in completions (26.57 per game) and fourth in passing yards (311.3 per game). Fuller is also 11th nationally in total offense (311.3 yards per game). He has thrown for 400 or more yards three times in 2015. Fuller threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns in Brown's win over Cornell and passed for 323 yards and two touchdowns vs. Penn. Against Princeton, Fuller passed for 285 yards and two touchdowns, completing 29-of-42 passes. He completed 41-of-58 passes for 438 yards and four touchdowns vs. Rhode Island. He followed that up by throwing for 412 yards vs. Holy Cross, the third time in his career he's thrown for 400 or more yards, completing 33-of-50 passes against the Crusaders. Fuller came up with a big performance in the Bears' season opener against Bryant, completing 32-of-52 passes for 403 yards and an 83-yard touchdown completion. Fuller returns for a fifth year after a solid inaugural season as the Bears' signal caller, throwing 15 touchdown passes and passing for 2,618 yards, eighth all-time at Brown. He ranked 14th nationally with 261.8 passing yards per game and 21st in the nation in completions per game (19.8).

Fuller To Doles – Third Longest Pass Play Ever: Brown's first touchdown of the 2015 season came on an 83-yard pass play from senior quarterback Marcus Fuller (Ashland, OH) to senior wide receiver Troy Doles (Saratoga, CA) against Bryant. Doles grabbed the pass at midfield and outran the Bulldogs' defense into the end zone. The 83-yard completion is the third longest passing play in Brown's 138-year football history.
Brian Strachan Named National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Semifinalist: Brown senior wide receiver Brian Strachan (Wellesley, MA) is among 135 football student-athletes, including five Ivy League standouts, announced as candidates for the 2015 National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments®.
Pena Hits Century Mark: Junior Johnny Pena (Tucson, AZ) ran for 112 yards and four touchdowns vs. Cornell, the first time in his Brown career that he's gone over the century mark in rushing. All four of his touchdowns against the Big Red came on one-yard runs. His 24 points scored rank fourth all-time at Brown. He scored on a seven yard run vs. Penn. Pena had 45 yards vs. Princeton and scored the game-winning TD against the Tigers on a seven-yard run with 56 seconds remaining. He led the Bears with 47 yards on the ground vs. Harvard and had a team-high 48 yards vs. Holy Cross.
Have A Coke: Senior Andrew Coke (Andover, MA) ran for a career-high 99 yards against Princeton and has rushed for 217 yards this season. Coke led the Bears in rushing with 516 yards last year and ran for a season-high 89 yards vs. Holy Cross in 2014.
Moreno In Relief Role: Junior quarterback Kyle Moreno (Pleasanton, CA) came into the Harvard game midway through the second quarter and passed for 307 yards, completing 20-of-31 passes, while also rushing for 28 yards. He threw touchdown passes of 79 and five yards, and ran for touchdowns of 11 and four yards against the Crimson.
Jette Among Nation's Receiving Leaders: All-Ivy junior wide receiver Alex Jette (North Attleboro, MA) leads the Ivy league and ranks third nationally in receptions (8.4 per game) and receiving yards (120.1.0 per game). He had eight catches for 145 yards, including a 34-yard TD reception vs. Penn. Jette caught nine passes for 157 yards and a 59-yard TD reception vs. Cornell, all in the first half. He was named the Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week after Brown's win over Princeton where he returned the opening kick-off 99 yards for a touchdown. His 99-yard kickoff return is the fourth longest ever at Brown, ranking 13th in the Ivy League record book and is the longest at Brown in 110 years. Jette also had a 33-yard punt return against the Tigers and caught eight passes for 93 yards. He was named the New England Player of the Week (Gold Helmet) after making 16 catches for 216 yards against Holy Cross. His 16 receptions rank seventh in the Brown record book, while his 216 receiving yards are ninth all-time at Brown. Jette made nine catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns vs. URI, including the go-ahead touchdown, a 20-yard reception, with 5:16 left in the game. He made an impact in Brown's opening game against Bryant with seven receptions for 84 yards, while rushing once for 10 yards. Last year, Jette made 26 catches and returned punts for the Bears with 8.7 yards per return, 29th best in the nation.
Offensive Line: The Bears feature a veteran offensive line with senior three-year starter John Heile at center, junior left tackle Dakota Girard (Wellfleet, MA), junior right tackle Matt Girard (Holyoke, MA), senior guard Andrew Terry (Simi Valley, CA), who missed last year due to injury, and junior guard Bruce Hall (Leslie, MI). Sophomore center Christian Montano (Orange, CT) has started games vs. Princeton, Cornell and Penn.
Defensive Line: Junior tackle Thomas Kutschke (Lake Forest, IL), who missed last week's game vs. Penn, intercepted his first career pass vs. Holy Cross. His 14 tackles are tied for second among defensive linemen. In 2014, Kutschke made 17 tackles. Junior Richard (Dewey) Jarvis (Watertown, MA) paced the Bears with nine tackles vs. Penn, including one for a loss. He has made 23 tackles on the season, including 3.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 quarterback sacks. With injuries to the defensive line, freshmen Daryl Banfield (Bronx, NY) and Grant Varner (Grandview Heights, OH) have earned starting roles.
Senne Named Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week vs. Holy Cross: Brown senior Grant Senne (Winter Park, FL) was named the Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking three field goals vs. Holy Cross, including the game-winning 35-yard boot with 2:06 remaining to give the Bears a 25-24 win. He kicked a 32-yard field goal vs. Cornell and punted for a 45.0 yard average. Senne also booted the game-winning field goal last year against Holy Cross in overtime. Senne kicked field goals of 20, 23 and a career-best 45 yards against Bryant. Last season, Senne connected on 12-of-15 field goals, booted 29-of-29 extra points and averaged 37.8 yards per punt. Senne was named one of the Top 5 Ivy Football players to watch by Hero Sports.
Brown Captains: Senior quarterback Marcus Fuller (Ashland, OH), senior center John Heile (Louisville, KY) and senior defensive tackle Zach Sparber (Norwood, NJ) are the captains of the 2015 Brown Football team.
Strachan Ranks Seventh Nationally In Receptions: Senior wide receiver Brian Strachan (Wellesley, MA) made 11 catches for 60 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' win over Princeton. He ranks seventh nationally and second in the Ivy League with 7.6 receptions per game. Strachan hauled in a 30-yard TD reception vs. Cornell. He made a career-high 15 catches vs. Rhode Island, seventh best in Brown football history, and followed it up with six catches for 78 yards vs. Holy Cross. He made eight catches for 87 yards against Harvard. Strachan opened the season against Bryant with six catches for 53 yards. In 2014, Strachan made a team leading 56 catches, sixth best in the Ivy League, for 668 yards.

Hughes On The Defensive Front: Junior end Robert Hughes (Long Valley, NJ) made one of the biggest plays of the Brown season when his hit of the Princeton quarterback popped the ball up in the air and allowed a Brown interception to set up the game winning touchdown. He also had four tackles and a quarterback sack against the Tigers. Hughes recorded his first career interception late in the fourth quarter against Holy Cross. He has made 14 tackles on the season, including three for a loss and two quarterback sacks. Last year, Hughes made 15 tackles, including two tackles for loss.
Doles Eighth Nationally In Receiving Yards: Senior wide receiver Troy Doles (Saratoga, CA) had another big day vs. Princeton, making six catches for 104 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown grab. He ranks eighth in the nation with 109.3 receiving yards per game, while his 6.6 receptions per game are 21st nationally. His 137.71 all-purpose yards per game ranks 18th in the nation. Doles had eight catches for 98 yards and a 19-yard TD reception vs. Penn. He made nine catches for 112 yards in Brown's win over Holy Cross. Doles excelled vs. Rhode Island with nine catches for 127 yards and a 20-yard touchdown. He made six catches for 147 yards against Bryant, including an 83-yard touchdown reception, the third longest pass play in Brown history. Doles also made three receptions for a game high 119 yards vs. Harvard. Doles made 26 receptions a year ago.
Brown Head Coach Phil Estes: Since Phil Estes became head coach of the Bears in 1998, his Brown football teams have captured three Ivy League titles (1999, 2005, 2008), finished second four times, third five times, and overall have finished in the top half of the Ivy League in 14 of his 17 seasons, while compiling an impressive 72-41 Ivy mark (.637), 107-69 (.608) overall. Estes' 72 career Ivy League wins are the most ever at Brown and rank sixth in the Ivy League record book, while his 107 career wins overall rank 10th all-time in the Ivy League. Estes' 176 career games coached at Brown are ninth in Ivy football history. Estes, the 19th head coach in Brown history, is the second winningest coach in Brown football history, guiding the Brown football program to an unprecedented level of success, winning three Ivy League Championships, including Brown's first ever Ivy outright title in 2005. He has also coached and recruited Brown's only four Ivy League Players of the Year – Sean Morey '99, James Perry '00, Nick Hartigan '06 and Buddy Farnham '10. Gillen Leads Bears' Defense: Senior safety Zachary Gillen (Mt. Brook, AL), the lone defensive backfield starter returning from last year, leads the Brown team with 48 tackles, including 30 solo hits and 2.5 tackles for a loss. His 6.9 tackles per game is seventh in the Ivy League. Gillen registered eight tackles vs. Penn. He made 10 solo tackles in Brown's win over Holy Cross. Gillen made six tackles, including one for a loss, in Brown's win over Princeton. Gillen registered 32 tackles and had two pass break-ups in 2014.
Twyman Named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week: Senior Will Twyman (Sudbury, MA) has stepped up his play at inside linebacker and ranks second on the Brown team with 45 total tackles, including 3.5 for a loss. He was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness Ivy Defensive Player of the Week after making 10 tackles vs. Princeton and intercepting a key pass late in the fourth quarter to set up Brown's game-winning touchdown drive. He registered seven tackles vs. Penn. Twyman had five tackles vs. Holy Cross, including one for a loss. He made 17 tackles last year.

On The Outside: Senior All-Ivy outside linebacker Ryan MacDonald (Falmouth, ME), who ranks eighth on the Brown team with 20 tackles, made 10 total tackles vs. Harvard. He came back to the lineup and made three solo tackles vs. Penn after missing several games due to injury. Last year, he made 45 tackles, fourth on the Brown team, and picked up a fumble and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown against Yale. Senior outside linebacker Michael Walsh (Swampscott, MA) has 33 tackles on the season and leads the Bears with 6.0 tackles for a loss. Walsh made seven tackles and recovered a fumble vs. Cornell, six tackles vs. Penn and had five tackles vs. Princeton. He ranked second on last year's team with 47 total tackles. Senior Quintin Rizek (Albuquerque, NM) has also excelled on the outside, making a career high 12 tackles, including nine solo hits and a quarterback sack, vs. Cornell. He made 10 tackles vs. Princeton and tallied his second red zone interception of the season, and made eight tackles vs. Penn. His 40 tackles rank fourth on the Brown team.

Bears In The NFL: Brown has two of its former players on NFL rosters in 2015. Zak DeOssie '07 is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super Bowl Champion for the New York Giants. Fullback James Develin '10, an engineering concentrator at Brown, was the New England Patriots starting fullback for the last two seasons, including last year's Super Bowl Championship team, but was placed on injured reserve in the preseason.
