
No. 11 Men's Water Polo Drops Decisions to No. 10 UC Davis, Cal Baptist

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 11 Brown University men's water polo dropped decisions to No. 10 UC Davis, 9-6, and Cal Baptist, 13-11, on Saturday at "The Rodeo" at Santa Clara University's Sullivan Aquatic Center.
In their second day at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, the Bears (15-6) remained in both games in the fourth quarter before falling to the Aggies (12-6) and the Lancers (14-10) – both out of the WWPA – in the morning and the afternoon respectively.
Senior Matty Gallas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and junior Yahel Murvitz-Lahav (Tel Aviv, Israel) scored four goals apiece in the contest against Cal Baptist.
Next, Brown continues play at "The Rodeo" tomorrow with contests against Fresno Pacific (1:40 p.m. ET) and No. 13 Air Force (5:40 p.m. ET).
Game 1 – No. 10 UC Davis 9, No. 11 Brown 6
No. 11 Brown pulled within one goal of No. 10 UC Davis midway through the fourth quarter, but the Bears fell to the Aggies, 9-6, on Saturday morning.
The Bears received one goal apiece from Gallas, juniors Luke Irwin (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), Murvitz-Lahav, Warren Smith (Dallas, Texas), and Jake Wyatt (Corona Del Mar, Calif.), and freshman Santiago Nunez (Miami, Fla.).
Gallas opened the game's scoring less than two minutes into the contest before the Aggies – who stand in a tie atop the Western Water Polo Association standings – tied the score at 1-1 through one quarter.
Smith put the Bears up 2-1, and Nunez gave Brown a 3-2 lead in between a UC Davis marker. The Aggies netted the second stanza's last three goals to take a 5-3 edge into halftime.
UC Davis took a 6-3 advantage just over three minutes into the third frame prior to a goal from Irwin, which cut the Bears' deficit to 6-4 heading to the fourth quarter.
Goals from Murvitz-Lahav and Wyatt brought Brown within 7-6 of UC Davis with 5:30 to play, but the Aggies scored the game's last two goals to pull out the victory.

Game 2 – Cal Baptist 13, Brown 11
Gallas and Murvitz-Lahav each scored four goals, and Brown knotted the score at 10-10 in the fourth quarter before falling to Cal Baptist, 13-11, on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Travis Bouscaren (Cambridge, Mass.), Irwin, and Wyatt added one goal apiece for the Bears.
Cal Baptist took a 3-1 lead to start the game despite a goal from Gallas. The Bears drew level at 3-3 behind goals from Murvitz-Lahav and Bouscaren before the Lancers netted the first quarter's last two markers to take a 5-3 lead.
The Lancers moved ahead 7-3 before Gallas scored to stem the run. Murvitz-Lahav pulled the Bears within 7-5 and 8-6 later in the second stanza before Cal Baptist brought a 9-6 advantage into the break.
The Bears outscored the Lancers, 3-1, in the third quarter to cut their deficit to 10-9 heading to the fourth frame. Gallas scored the team's first goal in the period before Irwin and Gallas notched back-to-back tallies to tie the score at 9-9.
Gallas knotted the game at 10-10 just 26 seconds into the fourth before Cal Baptist staked itself to a 12-10 edge with 3:08 remaining. Wyatt converted to bring Brown within 12-11 with 2:32 to play, but the Lancers added an insurance tally with 1:44 left.
