Wrestling Tops Menlo College, Falls to Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Ricky McDonald and sophomore Justin Staudenmayer won two bouts apiece as Brown University wrestling beat Menlo College, 40-6, and fell to Stanford University, 27-9, on Sunday at Burnham Pavilion on the campus of Stanford.
Concluding their four-meet swing through the Golden State, the Bears (1-3) topped the Oaks (2-2) in a neutral site meet prior to falling to the host Cardinal (5-2) later in the evening.
Staudenmayer (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) earned a win through fall and another via decision while McDonald (Carson City, Nev.) tallied one win through technical fall and one from decision.
Next, Brown hosts its home opener against No. 3 Cornell on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Meet One – Brown 40, Menlo 6
Staudenmayer and senior Ophir Bernstein (Allen, Texas) each recorded pins to lead Brown past Menlo, 40-6.
Staudenmayer pinned Sam Duchene at the 2:19 mark in the 157-pound weight class while Bernstein registered a fall 3:41 into his bout with Nick Karis at 184 pounds.
McDonald and senior Billy Watterson (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) each posted wins through technical fall. McDonald won 16-0 over Zach Grove at 174 lbs., and Watterson took an 18-1 victory over Elias Hernandez at 125 lbs.
Junior Anthony Finocchiaro (Canastota, N.Y.) and freshman Zeke Salvo (Baltimore, Md.) gained wins through decision at 141 and 133 pounds respectively while senior Sebastien Levin (Amenia, N.Y.) and freshman Austin Pfarr (Marysville, Ohio) triumphed at 197 and 285 lbs. respectively via forfeit.
Meet Two – Stanford 27, Brown 9
Staudenmayer, McDonald, and junior Augustus Marker (Castle Rock, Colo.) each won bouts, but Stanford bested the visiting Bears, 27-9.
Staudenmayer beat Maxwell Hvolbeck, 3-2, at 157 lbs., McDonald topped Keaton Subjeck, 8-4, at 174 lbs., and Marker outscored Ryan Davies, 14-8, in the 197-pound weight class.
