FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Brown men's soccer team prevented a shot on goal throughout the entire contest, but could not find the back of the net on the other end, as the Bears played Fairfield to a scoreless tie in Sunday afternoon's non-conference matchup at Lessing Field.
Brown moved to 2-3-3 overall after its third scoreless tie in as many games, while the Stags now stand at 3-2-2 on the season.
Brown senior keeper Mitch Kupstas (Suwanee, Ga.) recorded his third straight shutout and fourth of the season, while the backline stepped up and prevented a shot on target. Matt Turner registered three stops in net for the Stags.
After a defensive opening 45 minutes when each team posted two shots, the Stags had an early flurry in the second half with consecutive chances, but one shot was blocked and the other rang off the post. Brown took over later in the half with a pair of shots on goal by freshman Nico Lozada (Dallas, Texas) and Jameson Lochhead (Basking Ridge, N.J.), but Turner stopped both attempts to force overtime.
Neither team was able to get off a shot in the first ten minutes of extra time, which forced a second overtime period, when the Stags held a slim edge in shots, 2-1. Eduardo Martin (Tenerife, Spain) had the lone shot for the Bears in the second overtime stanza, but the attempt was blocked as the two teams ended in a scoreless tie.
Lozada led the Bears with three shots and two shots on goal, while the teams were even in corner kicks, 3-3.
The Bears return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they host Columbia in the Ivy League opener at 7 p.m.
