
Volleyball Downed at UNH, 3-1

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Sarah Lucenti (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and junior Shannon Frost (Santa Ana, Calif.) both posted double-double performances, but the Brown volleyball team fell at New Hampshire, 3-1, in the opening day of the Holly Young Invitational Friday evening at Lundholm Gymnasium.
Brown drops to 3-6 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 5-8 overall. Set scores in the match were 25-15, 17-25, 16-25 and 24-16.
Lucenti led the team with 21 assists and added 10 digs for her third double-double match of the season, while Frost registered 13 kills and 13 digs. In addition to Frost, senior Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) recorded 15 kills to reach double figures for the fifth time this season. Senior Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Calif.) paced the Bears with 21 digs.
Brown jumped out to a quick lead in the opening set when Frost used back-to-back kills to start the visitors off with a 7-3 advantage. New Hampshire pulled within five later in the set at 19-14, but the Bears ended with a 6-1 stretch to close it out at 25-15. Brown totaled 15 kills in the opening stanza to go along with a .400 attack percentage.
UNH answered back and claimed the next two sets, ending the second set with a 7-2 run and third set with five straight points to move out in front, 2-1, in the match.
Brown did not back down in the fourth set, however, as the two teams were all knotted up a nine points apiece. After Brown fought back from a three-point deficit to even the score at 19-19, the teams traded points for another tie match at 23-23, but the Wildcats ended with three unanswered points to close it out at 26-24 and seal the victory.
Brown continues action at the Holly Young Invitational tomorrow when they face New Mexico State at 10 a.m. and Rhode Island at 4 p.m.
