PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seniors Kaitlyn Keon and Sarah Robson each scored two goals, and sophomore goaltender Monica Elvin made 27 saves without allowing a goal as Brown University women's hockey came back to defeat the University of Maine, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.
The Bears (3-4-0) rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the first period to top the Black Bears (4-7-2) for the second day in a row after beating Maine, 5-2, on Friday night.
Brown tied the game midway through the second stanza off Keon's (Toronto, Ontario) second goal and went ahead for good 1:28 into the third period on a game-winning goal from freshman Sam Donovan (New Brighton, Minn.).
Facing a 3-0 deficit less than seven minutes into the first period, the Bears began their rally as Robson (Mississauga, Ontario) stole the puck in the neutral zone then beat a defender and the goaltender to score her first goal of the season 9:46 into the opening stanza.
The Bears pulled within 2-1 just over five minutes into the second period as Keon registered her first goal of the game. Sophomore Catherine LeBoeuf (Dieppe, New Brunswick) poked the puck free after a faceoff to Robson who brought it along the right wing before passing to an open Keon in front of the net.
Keon knotted the score at 3-3 less than five minutes later as she deflected a point shot from junior Kelly Micholson (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) via sophomore Erin Conway (Jackson, Mich.) on the power play.
Brown struck again on the power play just under 90 seconds into the final frame as Donovan redirected a shot from sophomore Maddie Woo (Plymouth, Minn.) for the fourth goal of her rookie campaign.
Robson posted the game's final goal on an empty net after senior Janice Yang (Westport, Conn.) hustled to knock a puck out of the Bears' defensive zone as Maine held a six-on-five advantage.
Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) turned aside 12 shots in the third period and improved her record to 3-2-0 in the win, blanking the Black Bears over her 53:01 of action. Mariah Fujimagari (1-1-1) stopped 14 shots in the loss.
Audra Richards, Emilie Brigham, and Morgan Sakundiak scored in order for the visitors in the first period, but the Black Bears could not net another goal after the 6:59 mark of the first.
Next, Brown returns to ECAC play at Cornell on Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. and at Colgate on Nov. 15 at 3 p.m.
