
Women's Hockey's Rally Comes Up Short at Connecticut, 4-2

STORRS, Conn. – Senior Kaitlyn Keon and junior Kelly Micholson each scored as part of a third-period rally, but Brown University women's ice hockey fell at the University of Connecticut, 4-2, at the Freitas Ice Forum on Tuesday night.
The Bears (1-4-0) notched the third period's first two goals to pull within 3-2, but the host Huskies (3-5-4) netted a goal later in the frame and held on for the win.
Keon (Toronto, Ontario) recorded the Bears' first goal of the game 27 seconds into the third on a penalty shot after Connecticut's Sarah MacDonnell picked up a penalty for interference. The goal marked Keon's second of the season and the eighth of her career.
Micholson (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) brought the Bears within one goal at 3-2 as she registered a goal off an assist from sophomore Maddie Woo (Plymouth, Minn.) at the 5:16 mark of the third frame for her first strike of the season and the third of her career.
The Bears out-shot the hosts 14-13 in the third period but could not find an equalizer. Brown played with six skaters for the final 1:09, compiling four shots on goal.
Brown sophomore goaltender Monica Elvin (Oakland, Calif.) made 27 saves while UConn net-minder Annie Belanger stopped 25 shots.
As a team, Brown blocked nine shots in the first period, but the Huskies' Justine Fredette scored her first goal of the season to put UConn up 1-0. Theresa Knutson scored 7:37 into the second period to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage, and Caitln Hewes staked the Huskies to a 3-0 advantage with a power play goal at 15:25 of the second stanza.
Elvin made 10 saves in the second period and turned aside 12 shots in the third period to help setup the Bears' comeback.
Emily Snodgrass netted Connecticut's final goal with just over under six minutes remaining in the contest.
For the game, Brown led 16-7 in blocked shots while UConn held advantages in shots on goal (31-27) and face-offs won (27-19).
Next, Brown hosts Maine on Friday at 3 p.m. and on Saturday at 2 p.m.
