LAST TIME OUT
Meghan O'Donnell's milestone goal early in the second half paced the Brown field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Holy Cross at Hart Turf Field on Wednesday night.
Saturday marks the 36th all-time meeting between the schools in what has proven to be an even battle over the years. The Big Red holds a slim 17-16-2 edge as Brown looks to even up the series this weekend. O'Donnell scored Brown's lone goal with 58 seconds to play in last season's 2-1 loss at Cornell.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
After claiming eight of their first nine contests, the Big Red have dropped three straight including a 2-1 defeat at Harvard last Saturday. Marisa Siergiej is the one to watch on offense as her 11 goals are good for a three-way tie for the Ivy League lead alongside Columbia's Zoe Blake and Penn's Alexa Hoover. Ann DiPastina and Taylor Standiford each have posted nine assists, good for second in the league in that category. In goal, Kelly Johnson and Elizabeth Schaeffler have shared duties this season, each appearing in seven games. Johnson tops the league with a 1.06 goals-against average.
The Winchester, Massachusetts native now sits atop the Brown record book with 37 career goals, eclipsing Tara Mounsey's previous record of 36 set in 1999. O'Donnell also moved into a three-way tie for first on Brown's all-time point list with 87 career points.
MCSWEENEY TOUGH TO BEAT
Senior tri-captain Shannon McSweeney tops the Ivy League in wins (9), save percentage (.761), and shutouts (3) while logging all 938:10 of action in 2014.
MILLER SCORES AGAIN
Alexis Miller tallied her fifth goal of the season on Oct. 12 against Lehigh, rising to second place on the team with 10 points.
HOME DOMINANCE
The Bears have outscored their opponents 22-13 on Goldberger Family Field this season in posting a 7-1 home record. Brown has averaged 2.8 goals per game at home while tallying only 1.0 goals per game on the road.
SUDDEN DEATH THRILLER
Jaclyn Torres (Andover, Mass.) sent the Brown faithful home happy on Oct. 4 with a double overtime strike against Ivy foe, Harvard. After Hannah Rogers (Los Altos, Calif.) knotted the game with just 31 seconds remaining in regulation, Torres buried a point-blank shot past Harvard goalkeeper Issy Davies with 9:20 left in the second overtime period.
Brown heads to Philadelphia next weekend for back-to-back contests against Penn and Saint Joseph's before returning home for the season finale against Yale on Nov. 8.
