Kingston, R.I. – The No. 24 Brown University men's soccer team (1-0) will challenge Providence College in the 2012 Ocean State Classic championship game at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept.3 at the University of Rhode Island's Soccer Complex.
The Bears enter Monday's competition 1-0 on the year after defeating the University of Rhode Island 1-0 in Friday's first-round game. Senior midfielder Thomas McNamara (West Nyack, NY) scored on a penalty kick in the 23rd minute to help Brown to its season-opening win and senior goalkeeper Sam Kernan-Schloss (Arlington, VA) recorded the win.
Brown and Providence battled in the first round of the Ocean State Classic on Sept. 2, 2011 at PC's Glay Field, which the Friars won, 1-0, on a Greg Davis goal scored in the 69th minute. It was the Friars first win over Brown since 2006.
Providence College arrives in Kingston with a 1-2-0 record, having dropped its season-opener to Northeastern, 2-1, followed by a 3-1 loss at Monmouth. The Friars won their first game of the Ocean State Classic against Bryant on Friday afternoon, 1-0, in double overtime.
