
Second Place Finish For Bears At Brown Women's Golf Invitational

Barrington, RI - While it's always a goal to win your own tournament, the Brown women's golf team did the next best thing, placing second at the 2012 Brown Women's Golf Invitational, played at the par-72, 6,067-yard Rhode Island Country Club. The Bears made up five shots on first place St. Johns on the second day of play, but fell to the Red Storm by a five shot margin.
St. John's shot 304-325—629 in the 36-hole event to take home the team title, while Brown finished second on rounds of 314-320—634. Penn placed third (637), followed by Yale (642), Dartmouth (654), Fairleigh Dickinson (661), Siena (661), Boston University (697) and Quinnipiac (733). Princeton's Kelly Shon, playing as an individual, earned medalist honors after shooting 71-73—144.
Freshman Stephanie Hsieh was Brown's top scorer and finished fifth individually with a 36-hole 152 on rounds of 77-75. Senior Megan Tuohy also had an outstanding tournament, finishing 8th overall, after shooting 75-81—156.
Senior Heather Arison came in next for the Bears, shooting 81-81—162 to finish 18th, while Carly Arison shot 81-83—164 to place 22nd. Freshman Cassandra Carothers also competed for the Bears, scoring 87-84—171.
Two Brown players competed as individuals, with freshman Michelle Chen shooting 82-84—166, and freshman Kanika Gandhi coming in at 100-90—190.
Coach Danielle Griffith's team will be idle until the Ivy League Championship, April 27-29, at the Seaview Golf Resort in Atlantic City, NJ.
