Philadelphia, Pa. –Sophomore forward Ben Maurey (Downingtown, PA) has done it again for the No. 11 Brown men's soccer team. For the third straight game, Maurey has scored the game-winning goal, and this time it was against Penn on Saturday evening. The Bears improved to 12-1-2 on the year to earn their 10th shutout and extend their unbeaten streak to 11 games.
Maurey scored his fourth goal of the year to become Brown's leading scorer with 10 points just 3:59 into the game. Senior midfielder Kevin Gavey passed the ball to senior forward Bobby Belair, whose shot was deflected to an open Maurey who one-touched the ball to the top left corner of the net to give Brown a 1-0 edge.
The Bears continued to attack the Penn defense as Belair had back-to-back shots in the 15th minute that were saved by Penn's Max Kurtzman, and Jameso Lochead had a header in the 29th minute that got denied.
Brown had an 11-9 advantage in shots in the first period, and both goalkeepers turned away six shots on net. Senior Sam Kernan-Schloss (Arlington, VA) picked up two more saves in the second half to end the night with eight saves.
Brown continued to pressure the Quakers and out-shot Penn 7-2 in the final period to lead 18-11 for the game. The Bears also led 9-5 in corner kicks.
The Bears will now host Yale at Stevenson Field at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.
