Middletown, Rhode Island - On a chilly and windy day on Aquidneck Island, Brown shot 321 to place 10th after the first day of play at the New England Division I Championship, played at the par-72, 7244 yard Newport National Golf Club.
Sacred Heart leads the tournament at 295, followed by Rhode Island (300), Fordham (301), Central Connecticut (301), Boston College (304), UConn (304), Fairfield (316), Hartford (316), Holy Cross (320), Brown (321), Bryant (322), Boston U. (343), and Providence (344).
Bears' senior captain Michael Amato posted a five-over 77 to lead the Bears and place 20th individually after round one. Sophomore JD Ardell continued his strong play by carding 78.
Freshman Peter Callas came in at 80, while sophomore Jack Mylott finished at 86. Freshman Kyohei Itamura also scored for the Bears, shooting 87.
The Bears will tee-it up for the final round of the New England Championship at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 10.
