Middletown, Rhode Island - Brown improved its first round score by seven shots with a final round 314 to place 10th at the New England Division I Championship held at the par-72, 7244 yard Newport National Golf Club on Aquidneck Island.
The Bears finished with a two-round score of 635 on rounds of 321-314. Central Connecticut captured the team championship with a two-round 590, winning by two strokes over Sacred Heart (592). Fordham came in at 600, followed by URI (608), Connecticut (608), Boston College (609), Hartford (615), Fairfield (626), Holy Cross (628), Brown (635), Bryant (639), Boston University (667) and Providence (686).
Freshman Peter Callas shot a second day 76 to lead the Brown squad, finishing at 156, 31st individually. Sophomore JD Ardell shot a second round 78 to complete the tournament at 157, good for 33rd place.
Senior captain Michael Amato was close behind. He carded a final round 81 after his first day 77 to shoot 158 overall. Freshman Kyohei Itamura improved to 78 to finish at 165, while sophomore Jack Mylott came in at 86 on Sunday to finish at 172.
The Bears are back in action again April 16-17, at the Yale Invitational, held at the Century Club in Purchase, NY.
